The Futrell Boys, "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" (Smokey Robinson cover)

Randomly stumbled across these kids. They're awesome... especially the 11-year-old when he says "Old School." Enjoy.

Janelle MonĂ¡e f. Erykah Badu, "Q.U.E.E.N."

Fresh off the presses as of yesterday, the Artist Formerly Known as Cindi Mayweather has dropped this seriously funky track, the first from her upcoming album, The Electric Lady. Two bonuses: a guest appearance by Ms. Badu, and these lines:
My crown too heavy like the Queen Nefertiti
Gimme back my pyramid, I'm trying to free Kansas City
Enjoy!

WORLDWIDE WEDNESDAY/MARCH OF THE COVERS: Paloma Faith, "You Never Give Me Your Money" (The Beatles)

We present the third installment in a weekly series of guest posts by the self-acclaimed music aficionado and news junkie, Peter Jordan. Each week, the post will loosely relate to  some aspect of current events. This month, he must meet the additional requirement of using a cover song in his post. Enjoy.

Budget Talks.  Nothing to say really, just ugh.

If I knew anything about Ms. Faith, I suspect I would not be a fan, but I needed a cover of a song about money. Do watch the video. Is she reading the lyrics off her left hand? It looked like it to me. Weird.

The 500 Club!: Otis Redding, "Chained and Bound" (Live)

Today marks Tuna Day's 500th post, and to mark the occasion, we turn to Maura's favorite performance from one of her favorite artists.  Here's the incomparable Otis Redding, performing at LA's Whisky Go Go in 1966.  Enjoy, and thanks for listening.

Sonia Dada, "You Ain't Thinking about Me" (Live in Australia, 1993)

Here's some vintage Sonia Dada, from their 1993 tour of Australia, where the band soared to the top of the charts.  The original lineup, shown here, featured Michael Scott, Paris Delane and Sam Hogan on vocals, Dan Pritzker and Dave Resnick on guitar, Erik Scott on bass, Chris "Hambone" Cameron on keys, and Hank Guaglianone on drums.  Enjoy!

Gladys Knight and the Pips, "I Heard It through the Grapevine"

Originally written for Smokey Robinson & the Miracles by Barrett Strong ("Money (That's What I Want)") and Norman Whitfield, the song faced an uphill battle past Berry Gordy to reach the public.  Gladys' and the Pips' version was the first to be released and eventually became a #1 single.  Of course it was later outperformed by Marvin's definitive take, but this is stellar... seen here on Soul Train.  Enjoy!
