Maura and I caught this song last night from outside the fence at Commodore Barry Park, as part of AfroPunk Fest 2012. Though we only caught glimpses over the heads and through the chain-link fence, it was enough to get us dancing, along with everyone else (temporarily) shut out from the festival. Flushing Avenue was the most hopping I've ever seen it. Monáe is a fantastic performer, and I know I don't have to remind you that she's from Kansas.
The performance below was captured at the Michigan Theater in 2009. Enjoy!

Janelle Monáe, "Cold War"
Beautiful video in its simplicity. This one's from The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III). I expect that Monáe will make more than one appearance here. In my opinion, she's the freshest act since, well... OutKast. This makes sense, considering much of her early national exposure was thanks to appearances on Big Boi's Got Purp? Vol. 2 and OutKast's Idlewild. Bonus points for the fact that she's from Kansas. Enjoy.

Sonia Dada, "Lover (You Don't Treat Me No Good No More)"
Full disclosure: my uncle was the live sound guy for Sonia Dada for much of its existence. Also, I once put in a two-day stint as a roadie, driving through the night from Chicago to Des Moines, and back the next day. Personal biases aside, they were a phenomenal band... especially live. Enjoy!
