Theophilus London, "I Stand Alone"

Theo rocks the bolo tie better than I ever could.  So jealous.  Maybe I need sunglasses.

The Like, "He's Not a Boy"

My crash course on The Like (who evidently have been around for 10 years) came courtesy of this interview in Filter magazine.  Have a listen to this one, and see if you agree with Tennessee Thomas (the drummer, who has also played behind She & Him), when she describes the inspiration for 2010's Release Me: "We tried to imagine what it would sound like if The Supremes fronted The Animals."  Top it off with the fact the group recorded the album with the Dap-Kings and Mark Ronson (the producer for Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen), and it all makes sense.  Enjoy!

OPEN REQUEST SUNDAY: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, "Janglin'"

Even though it's been less than a month since TD has featured a song from Mr. Sharpe (actually Alex Ebert)... TD's editorial staff is of the opinion that you can't have too much of a good thing.  So without further ado, VIOLETTE wants you to know that:

...we’re out to blow the trumpet
To wake you all from bed...

Beck, "Sexx Laws"

From 1999's Midnite Vultures, a decidedly delightful romp... with Jack Black as a bonus!  Enjoy.

Ben Harper, "Steal My Kisses" (Live at Hollywood Bowl)

I love this song, and it's even better when you factor in: the guy sprinting to the conga at 2:02, the deadly bass solo that begins at 3:16, and the phenomenal beatboxing that immediately follows.  Enjoy, folks!

Spoon, "The Underdog"

Heading to Austin today, so serving up a little Spoon is only fitting... from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.

She & Him, "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here"

Great video from Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, from the album Volume One.  Lovely, but morbid.  Enjoy!

Michael Franti and Spearhead, "Say Hey (I Love You)"

Sure to make you jump up out of your seat and shake it, a happy song from a favorite of Maura's.  We saw him a few years back at Summerfest--performing barefoot, of course.  Vevo doesn't always allow embedding of videos, so you may need to click to go to YouTube.  It's worth it, if you value happiness.  Enjoy.
