Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, "Express Yourself"

For yesterday...

  1. Nice. Interesting shift to Jay-Z "tomorrow." Both have horns (or horn sound), Watts 103rd lifts and sings, Jay-Z's backers are too robotic (maybe because they are literally electronic?).

Love the image of the 45 with the adapter piece in the middle. Did anyone have the set up with a wide post and little bracket that could hold two or three records on top while the lower one would drop and play? Then after that one finished, the next would drop. Limited playlists to about four songs, but I only had about four so it worked out fine.

  2. Four of your own songs? Impressive. On a huge tangent... the most memorable 45 I can recall as a kid was a radio call of Roger Maris' 61st home run. I thought it was Mel Allen, but I just went to look it up. Phil Rizzuto was filling in for Allen that day, but sure enough, the Yankees had Allen record an ex post facto version. How about that!?

What does that have to do with Charles Wright? I don't know. I'm just expressing myself.
